Probably the first thing anyone learns about God is Love. We know that God’s love is great and cuts across all barriers. The truth though, is that God more than has love; God is Love.
Love is a nature, an essence, that flows from God. The only reason there is a concept called Love is because God exists. The Bible says “… God is love” 1 John 4:8. Something else we know about God is that He is faithful by nature. He cannot do anything that is out of character. Therefore when we see God act in Love, He is only being true to himself. “…God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Rom 5:8. We see the Love of God demonstrated everyday; with all the atrocities in the world, God has refused to wipe it out. He is holding out for as many as possible that will come to saving knowledge in Him.
One aspect of God’s love that is greatly misunderstood or overlooked is His wrath. A necessary side of Love is annoyance or anger towards every and anything that is in opposition to the object of one’s affection. God Loves everything that is good and flows from Him. As a result, everything in opposition to this good is absolutely detested by God. God sees them as an opposition to the good He is facilitating in the world. God absolutely loves His children, but detests everything that struggles and fights against His will for their lives. He has promised to, in the future, once and for all destroy the forces of evil and put paid to all their nuisances. It is important to ensure we do not cross swords with God’s love because the result would be devastating.
Knowing that God is love must spur us to action. We must become more loving ourselves. As Christians, we bear the nature of God. We cannot truly claim Christ if Love is not seen in our lives. John did not mince words when he said “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love” 1 John 4:7,8. There are not two ways about it. If you cannot love your brother that you see, how can you claim to love God you have not seen. It is important to let the beauty and love of Jesus show up in our daily lives.
My Prayer for you is that God will help you carry His love all around in Jesus’s name. God bless you.
